Korean Schools Chess League

  • Instagram

I started the Korean Schools Chess League because I wanted to do more than just play chess alone but build something that would bring people together.

To me, this league isn’t just about competing. It’s about creating a shared culture where students from different schools can connect, grow, and learn through the game of chess. By introducing chess to different schools, I hope to inspire curiosity, confidence, and community.

Through organizing events and connecting with other students, I’ve learned how powerful chess can be — not just as a game, but as a way to build friendships and support each other’s growth.

First Korean Schools Chess League

May 23, 2025 / 📍 Newton Academy

In our first league, 40 students from middle and high school in Korea gathered to compete, representing 10 school teams. The league was played over five rounds with rapid time control of 10+5. A national Chess Representative Kyungseok Lee came to support us as the chief arbiter. Moreover, a team of six staff members helped run the league — they helped as planners, organizers, arbiters, and photographers.

Second Korean Schools Chess League

October 25, 2025 / 📍 Newton Academy

The second league was held in the same format as the first league, with 40 students from middle and high school in Korea who gathered to compete by representing their respective school teams. The league was played over five rounds with rapid time control of 10+2. A national Chess Representative Sungmin Ahn came to support us as the chief arbiter. Moreover, a team of six staff members helped run the league — they helped as planners, organizers, arbiters, and photographers. The second league is a continuation from the first league to fight back to win the Champions title in KSCL.
